It appears we gave... drum roll please... $1180 to Haiti relief (and that is just what was donated through the church)!

Well done everyone. The government is matching dollar for dollar those gifts that works out to $2360.

Is Jesus the Christ | Intro - This teaching (part of a series delivered at a school in Whistler B.C.) was delivered on Sunday night for the whole church (Church on the Mountain), many of whom would not be attending the school. While setting the stage for what is to come, this teaching also stands on its own.

If you weren't already aware, International China Concern offers a child sponsorship program called Hand in Hand. This is a great way to partner with ICC in its mission to bring love, hope and opportunity to every disabled child in China. On February 5, 6, and 7 ICC Canada is going to have a booth set up at Oakridge Centre mall (on West 41st at Cambie Street in Vancouver) with information on the Hand in Hand program so if you are interested be sure to come and check it out. The booth is going to be located between the kids play area and the entrance to Safeway.

This is an episode of the CBC radio program Tapestry from a few weeks back. I heard it when it aired, and it really stuck with me. Our church listened to some clips from it this week, and I thought I'd share it with you all.

The show is about common fears and how we deal with them. The guest on the show is Rabbi Harold Kushner. He seems to have a very honest and realistic perspective on life and faith, and it was encouraging to hear his thoughts.

I have been spending the week fine tuning a pack of mediations for the Lent period which begin in the middle of February .

I was reading the passage about the feeding the of the birds, and how this is the responsiblity of our heavenly FATHER Mt 6: 26 ...yet YOUR HEAVENLY FATHER feeds them.

A small tap on my conscience, and I remembered I have a bundle of bread in the cupboard which I have not eaten this week, and Ruth being in Manitoba would have put it in the freezer, which I should feed the birds.

Tonight I'm at home watching the "Canada for Haiti" broadcast. During one of the clips a reporter visited an orphanage for disabled children, examining what had happened to these most vulnerable of Haiti's citizens. The lady that ran the home was a vibrant young woman from Canada who clearly loved the children and I wondered if perhaps she was a follower of Jesus - but nothing was said about this.

Paul and Barnabas finish off their first journey and we catch a glimpse of a pattern that continues in all people/churches who desire to live on a mission.

After our carol sing we issued a cheque to ICC for $806 with the same amount going to the Ukraine. Here is a thank-you note I just received.

Hi all...

For those that were there on Sunday, you know that we floated the idea out about the potential of another trip to the Ukraine in the fall of 2010. Ideally, each year we would like to alternate small teams of people going to China and the Ukraine. This year we are thinking that the trip would be a mixture of both construction and hospice/relief care for the orphans and widows there.

Did the Spirit nudge any of you to consider going? Would you let me know?
