I Love the Church!

Tonight I'm at home watching the "Canada for Haiti" broadcast. During one of the clips a reporter visited an orphanage for disabled children, examining what had happened to these most vulnerable of Haiti's citizens. The lady that ran the home was a vibrant young woman from Canada who clearly loved the children and I wondered if perhaps she was a follower of Jesus - but nothing was said about this. Then it happened, at the end of the clip, one of the little mentally/physically challenged children was given the microphone and she immediately began to sing. As it was in French, I didn't recognize the song, but it wasn't long before the tune gave it away. Oh, love of God, how rich and pure! I've said this before and I'll say it again: Wherever there is suffering in the world invariably you will find two groups of people - those in need, and the disciples of Jesus. They were there before the tragedy, in this case loving challenged children, and after international attention is gone, they will still be there - living as the hands and feet of Jesus. And this is why I love the church I was so thankful for that woman, tonight. Her five minutes of international attention over, she will soon be forgotten again (we've got celebrities to focus on - in case you forgot!) - but Jesus will not forget her. As he watches her rise each day to change diapers, and feed those that can't feed themselves - he will remember her. And in the end, that is all that will really matter. |
